Visual Arts at Covenant
God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good.
Genesis 1:31
In Genesis we learn that the Creator, God, has made us in his image. Therefore, cultivation of the language of visual art is fundamental for full development of an educated young person.
Art Instruction
In the lower school, all grades have a weekly studio art class for the full year. Students are introduced to basic art concepts and skills. Varied projects give opportunity for engagement and exploration with the various mediums.
Middle school art challenges students to expand and develop their craft. Projects involve experiments in perspective, color, light and sculpting. Students are exposed to examples of master works and artists.
For upper school students, Foundations of Art is a mandatory year-long studio art class that enables students to understand the Elements of Design through a series of projects that greatly vary in medium, scope and focus. Advanced art electives are: Two-Dimensional Design (full year) which provides experience with all Elements of Design though drawing, painting and printmaking projects. Advanced Art is focused on the particular interest of the more mature art student to enable serious work. Independent, advanced students work after school day hours in Painting Workshop. Upper school art class projects emphasize drawing as foundational.
Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us; And confirm for us the work of our hands; Yes, confirm the work of our hands.
