Academics At Covenant Christian Academy
Covenants mission is to nurture and educate the whole person. This mission is accomplished through our commitment to authentic Christian role modeling, the principles of a Christian and Classical curriculum, and personal knowledge of each student and their unique developmental needs. Our liberal arts emphasis embraces the fine arts (music, visual arts, and drama), the vitality of physical education, and the importance of self-disciplined application. Our core values embracing respect, responsibility, effort, integrity, and kindness, determine the character development we seek to inspire in our students.
Increased Flexibility in the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Programs
We are pleased to announce some changes in the structure of the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten programs for the 2010-2011 school year. The Academy will continue to offer a 4-year-old pre-kindergarten program on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and will add the option of a mixed-age program on Tuesday and Thursday for 4-year-olds as well as select 3-year-olds. This schedule will also allow us to offer families a five-day option for 4-year-old pre-kindergarten. The pre-kindergarten extended-day program will also be offered all five days from 12:30 to 2:45 pm.
We will also offer families with students in our four-full-day kindergarten program with an optional enrichment day on Fridays. Please see Andrea Bergstrom with any questions.
Lower School
The Lower School program offers essential foundations in reading (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension) the rudiments of Latin and English grammar, mathematical skills and problem solving, discovery learning in the scientific method, interdisciplinary curricula in core subjects, writing across the curriculum, and cultural literacy. Assessments include annual Stanford Achievement Tests, DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) benchmarks, and writing portfolios.
Middle/Upper School
Covenant Christian Academys middle and upper schools are a dynamic environment that puts students in a position to thrive academically, socially, and spiritually. Our distinctly Christian and Classical learning platform challenges students to seek truth and think critically under the guidance of teachers who are experts in their fields and follow Christ. We do so because we believe faith is a compatible indeed, vital component of knowledge and education. The community of students and faculty is one of trust, responsibility, leadership development, and respect. Additionally, a growing assortment of co-curricular sports, clubs, and fine arts activities help maintain a rich variety of educational opportunities and whole-student development. We endeavor to provide excellent education for mind, body, and soul not only to create successful, well-rounded college students, but also to to prepare young people for global leadership and a God-honoring impact on society.
