Accreditation
Covenant Christian Academy is an Accredited Member of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).
Our Journey to Accreditation
Covenant Christian Academy entered official candidacy for Accreditation by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEAS&C) on December 6, 2006. NEAS&C is an organization dedicated to fostering institutional improvement in New Englands independent schools, while honoring their distinctive qualities. NEAS&C provides a system of ongoing and comprehensive accountability based on standards, which define the characteristics of an excellent educational experience. The accreditation process is structured around prescribed NEAS&C standards, a Self-Study engaging all constituencies, a peer review by an Accreditation Team, and an Action Plan designed to follow through on specific areas targeted for improvement.
At the heart of this process was Covenants Mission Statement: the purpose for which we exist, and the filter through which all enhancements to our program and improvements are evaluated. The board and faculty of CCA examined and revised our Mission Statement to reflect the essence of who we are today and what our legacy will be to future generations of students. Our Mission Statement is defined as:
Covenant Christian Academy offers a Christian and Classical education that builds students academic, spiritual, and social foundations for lives marked by leadership and service in todays global community. A Covenant education prepares students to excel in collegiate studies and intellectual pursuits, nurtures Christian faith and character, and fosters the gifts and abilities of each individual.
Surveys compiled from parents, faculty, and students, along with existing documents and policies, comprised a database from which we actively engaged in a self-study process. This involved in-depth analysis of and response to fifteen NEAS&C standards. At the core of this self-study process resided three major areas: our program, the experience of our students, and the resources needed to support our program and students going forward; these areas encompassed the focus of our evaluations and ultimately informed all other standards, as well as a Self-Study Action Plan targeted for improvement.
On October 18-21, 2009, an Accreditation Team comprised of members from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the Association of Christian Schools International visited CCA for three days. During their visit, they observed faculty and students in the light of Covenants entire program. Before their departure, the Accreditation Team drafted a report that was then reviewed by the Board and faculty of Covenant and the Commission of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. Once CCA received accreditation, we entered into a follow-up phase monitored by NEAS&C, to ensure that recommended institutional changes are implemented, accomplished, and documented.
Accreditation is an exciting and challenging process, which will not only build a solid infrastructure for Covenant, but will keep us on the cutting edge. We are committed to the ongoing process of adding value to Covenants educational experience, while experiencing the enduring growth that comes from ongoing evaluation and accountability.
